Colourcards autumn/winter 09/10

Absolute Elements

Back to the future, resuming old traditions we are looking for safety, well-being, relaxation and balance in absolute elements like clear water, clean air and a pure surrounding – mountains and woods. Following our great-grandfathers footsteps in the snow, we are quietly tromping towards old wisdoms and consider old-established values such as honesty and reliability. Everything may appear a bit old-fashioned and radiates instinctiveness. Life is physically less challenging nowadays however, we demonstrate a lot of respect to nature. We source our nourishments and supplies locally. Plain things like homemade, fresh bread accompanied by a glass of cool buttermilk become a delicacy. The green construction philosophy in Vorarlberg (state in Austria) implements resources conscious construction and already shows sustainable effects. Biodegradable materials, natural dyes and green power are the bricks that prove seriously our reflection. These elements characterize a lifestyle that esteems strictly designed architecture as well as the rough sides of nature. The mental wild side shows the “man with full beard”.

Colours:
Coffee brown and blue hues, appearing to be crystal clear mountain lakes or deeply green waters. The natural white of raw wool, deep brown of fresh bread, the rich green of the woods and the balmy green of green tea.

The Poet and The Doll

The poet and the doll: A Nordic world of fairy tales between dream and fiction: tender, elfish and sometimes naïve like a child. A soft melancholic mood in nebulous colours like a world wrapped in a snow globe. The novelist subsists on bacchanal thoughts and takes mind trips to the most different places. Dimensions, proportions and volumes shift like in a magic house of mirrors. Antiquarian toys like tin cars or porcelain dolls let us drift into passed down memories. A touch of rococo blossoms into fluid and flittering fabrics and even the accessories seem fragile like eggshells.

Colours:
Sun flooded, pastel fairy dresses in nebulous morning ambience are the key inspiration for a softly coloured range. Cotton candy in light apricot, beige tinted cocoons, doll-like rose, mauve and the greyish white of clouds mix with clear sky blue, bluish dove grey and a dark brown-grey, that reminds us of unpainted tin soldiers.

Swing & Champagne

Bourgeoisie and Bohemia indulge with swing & cham-
pagne
in a flush between Venetian masquerade ball, Moulin Rouge and feudal Berlin. Magnificent chandeliers sparkle above an undulant, dancing crowd in pompous-kitschy ballrooms. Perfume heavy, sultry air bemuses the senses, blurring boarders between masculine and feminine. Wicked role reversal in black and white intoxication of orientation. Deep back slits in long robes and semitransparent décolletés provoke in the dim twilight of the piano bar decorated with heavy jacquard wallpapers. Golden embellished masks hide lustful glances of glinting lingerie and silky laces. Behind the salon’s velvet curtains, Casanova is whispering frivolous secrets about the methods of seduction, while the secretive night is spreading mystic darkness above the burlesque debauchery.

Colours:
Copper curls, white powder, aristocratic grey and tight shades counterpoint an androgynous black. Accompanied by extremely deep colours like deepest bottle green, heavy Italian Montepulciano or caviar. The palette is enhanced by a hint of gold leaf.

Polka Scotch

The volume of the music is slowly increasing while we are approaching the room with the nostalgic planking. Now it becomes clear where the folkloristic rhythms originate. Doors are opening, revealing a festival room with a dancing, cheering, reveling crowd. It seems, we crashed into a Scottish-Slavic wedding party. Bagpipes and balalaikas doodle united and create a pleasurable cocktail of Polka+ Scotch. Men in emblazoned kilts dance with women in colourful dresses, traditionally decorated with embroideries, ornaments and pinafores. Checks from tiny to extensive; from filigree twines to rolling argyles - an unbelievable richness of colours and patterns coexists. Fanciful jacquards, paisleys, oriental rugs and nostalgic tablecloths irradiate the pristine lust for life. A mix and match that shows an uncomplicated blend of Sinti and Romanies influences. After the spicy, Slavic dances have finished, the accordion intones softer, melancholic tunes. The singer fascinates us with her strong voice and the spiritual interpretation of her Balkan melodies.

Colours:
A warm and rich interplay of warm hues like fox red, amethyst, ruby red and cooler shades like drake green and Danube blue. Deepest Bakelite, navy blue and the brass colour of strings, builds the base.

Intoxicated
Denim & Sportswear

Art & Fiction. Ready-to-wear and unique pieces. The jeans scene is seized by experiment fever and dunks deep into the art scene. There is no space for tackiness, future and trash are the trigger. Graphics with “chaos-factor” appear intoxicated. Rebellious shape display extreme variations: too tight, too wide, cut too low or to high-necked. Recycling materials and cyber realism, manga-comics and the street art spirit of the snowboard scene combine the real and the virtual. Artificial worlds arise out of vision and fiction or scientific urge and craftsmanship. Wacky monster illustrations allow fantasy to run free.

Colours:
Between pharmacy and chemical plant – these colours derive from the laboratory. The covering of pills and dragées are of a poisonous turquoise and sulfur green or in clear, lurid Japanese comic colours, violet or cool, vivid green. Pitch, licorice and dark indigo establish the basis of this synthetical mix. Neon and acid accents are given in small doses.

Crystal Candy
Kids & Youth

Little summiteers with colourful ropes and carabiners clamber into the next season, protected by super-technical materials. Graphics and decorations are imbued by Asia, for example Mongolia and Orient. Traditionally adorned highland-ponies follow the dirt trails dutifully until they reach the base station. An icy world made of crinkly materials surrounds the exploration curious pioneers. Inspired by hightech progress as well as extreme nature crystal candy combines cultural diversity and technology. Coloured pants are equipped with multi-functional details and pockets; prepared for each and every challenge. Ice sculptures generate plenty ideas for prints.

Colours:
The shiny skin of green limes gets a technical, troubled surface. The cold white of ice flowers, the frozen red of melons, the violet of sweet raspberry ice cream and the semi-lucent turquoise of crackled ice reflect a palette of chilled pastels. Tundra’s medium brown blends with Asia’s high mountains’ slightly faded colours. Intense Mongolian red and deep cobalt blue provide natural accents.
